Tennis

St Peter's recently won through the regional first round of the
Glanville Cup Boys Under 19 Tennis Competition. The team consisting of
Phil Hazelwood, Oliver Duffy, Chris Cole, Kris Smith and Jordan Gleadell
Burt beat Wycliffe College from Stroud 4-2. The boys now face Monmouth
School in the next round.

The Under 13 and Under 15 school competitions start this week.

Our National Junior Club League teams that compete at the weekends have
done well. Our Under 12s consisting of Elliott Hopson, Jake Haywood,
Charlie Chapman (St. Marys Primary) and Ollie Palmer (Twyning Primary)
have a County Semi-final tie against East Glos Club from Cheltenham.
Our Under 16s consisting of Chris Cole, Will Gardner, Kris Smith and
Jordan Gleadell Burt have beaten Oxstalls Indoor Tennis Centre 4-2 and
lost 4-2 to Esporta. The match against Esporta could have gone either
way as at 1 stage we were up in 3 out of 4 singles and we ended up just
winning 1. We just have Cirencester left to play in this division.

Individually, we have had some great results lately.

Chris Cole in Year 9 won a Grade 4 Regional Tournament in Malvern in
March beating the Number 1 Under 14 in Gloucestershire in the final.
Chris has also just represented Gloucestershire in the Under 14 County
Cup where he played at Number 3 and won 4 out of 5 matches.

Elliott Hopson in Year 7 has won 2 Grade 5 County Tournaments in the
last 2 months - 1 at Oxstalls Indoor Tennis Centre and 1 at Esporta in
Brockworth.

Chris and Elliott are both currently ranked 4 in Gloucestershire for
their respective ages (Under 14 and Under 12) and both will hope to
build on these rankings this Summer.

There are several boys in our school who have seen their national tennis
ratings go up in the last month these are: Chris Cole (gone up 2
ratings), Jordan Gleadell Burt, Kristofer Smith and Elliott Hopson.
Kristofer Smith in Year 11 has had a dramatic rise as he only started
playing tennis at the end of Year 9. He is already ranked 18 in
Gloucestershire for his age and has beaten the Number 7 ranked boy at
Under 16 level in the last month.

In addition to the players already at St. Peter's - there are younger
members of our academy. These include Charlie Chapman (aged 9) from St.
Mary's RC Primary and Oliver Palmer from  Twyning Primary near
Tewkesbury. Charlie Chapman has recently won an Under 10 County
Tournament at Esporta and Ollie recently attended Under 9 Midlands
Performance training at Solihull. Only the top 6 boys at this age in the
Midlands attended this training.

Tennis Results:

Quite a few of our tennis academy boys have been in action lately.

Elliott Hopson in Year 7, played very well to win a Grade 5 County Tournament at Oxstalls on Saturday 9th February. Elliott is currently ranked Number 4 in Gloucestershire at Under 12 but should be moving higher on the back of this result.

Kris Smith in Year 11 has won 4 matches out of 4 in Grade 6 matchplay events at Cheltenham Ladies College the last 2 Sundays (3rd and 10th February) and Jordan Gleadell Burt in Year 10 has won 3 out of 4 in the same Grade 6 matchplay events.

Chris Cole (Year 9) recently represented Gloucestershire in an Under 14 County Match against Wiltshire.

Charlie Chapman in St. Mary's RC Primary School who is part of our Tennis Academy played at Number 2 for Gloucestershire Under 10's against Wiltshire on 3rd February and he won both matches. Charlie also won a 'Super G' tennis event at Oxstalls which is open to all kids under 10 from Hereford and Worcester, Gloucestershire, Avon and South Wales. Oliver Palmer who also accesses St Peter's Tennis Academy (he attends Twyning Primary, near Tewkesbury) and is a year younger than Charlie finished Runner-Up in the same event. These were exceptional performances from the 2 youngsters who have very bright futures.

Oliver Duffy in Year 12 will be jetting off to Jersey to compete for Gloucestershire in the Under 18 County Cup Competition - so good luck to him.

Netball

Recently our Years 8 and 9 Netball Teams have beaten Katherine Lady Berkeley school who seem to be getting a bad time at the hands of St Peter's lately!

Hockey Results:

Year 8 - have enjoyed taking a couple of notable scalps since Christmas and they firstly beat Whitecross school 2 - 1 and then Katherine Lady Berkeley School by 8 goals to 1.

Rugby

We beat Wellington College at Newbury (neutral) ground 12 - 10 in the last 16 of the Daily Mail Cup and we are waiting to find out when we will be playing the Quarter-Final. It has been postponed due to a dispute with the RFU so as yet there is no fixed date for the match.

In the Under 15 competition the Year 10 team put up a real fight against Wellington who are possibly the best team in the country at this age. They eventually went down 12-5 but put in a great performance.

exceptionally well and the team is Phil Hazelwood, Oliver Duffy, Kris
Smith and Tom Gadbury.

St. Peter's Under 15 side beat Crypt away on Tuesday 27th November in

tight game, the boys came through 10 - 5.

They actually lost to St. Edwards 6 - 0 in June which makes the result all the more satisfying. In the regional semi-final they then saw off Dauntseys School from Wiltshire by a score of 5 - 1.

The team consists of Chris Cole, Will Gardner, Elliott Hopson and Liam Britton-Jeal.

The Boys Under 19 Team start their Winter campaign in the Nestle National Winter Competition against Colstons from Bristol on the 9th October 2007.
